Practice With Real-Time Guidance Instructions and Visual Aids
This module provides practice of left atrial appendage closure, intended to prevent thrombus embolization from the left atrial appendage, and reduce the risk of life-threatening bleeding events in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation. The module is real-time ultrasound enabled, using Live TEE (Trans Esophageal Echocardiogram) which allows for imaging and Doppler evaluation. Practiced steps: transseptal puncture, transseptal sheath placement, device sizing using echo measurements, LAA closure device deployment, doppler evaluation and tug test. Possible complications: pericardial effusion, aortic puncture or air embolism. The module includes a variety virtual patient cases, presenting different LAA sizes and shapes, and one step-by-step tutorial case, offering real-time guidance instructions and visual aids.
Learning Objectives:
- To learn and practice stepwise LAA closure device implantation, including:
- To handle complications, including aortic puncture, pericardiac effusion, and air embolism
- To become familiar with standard Echo views when using TEE (Transesophageal Echo)
- To establish intracardiac anatomical orientation under fluoroscopy and echocardiography
Specialties:
