PEDIATRIC ABDOMINAL module

This module is used on the Ultrasound Mentor’s pediatric manikin.

It offers tasks and clinical cases presenting various findings relevant to abdominal ultrasound examination in children. Procedural tasks offer step-by-step guided scanning protocols upon suspected appendicitis and intussusception to practice anatomy recognition and standard view acquisition. Clinical cases present various unique features, such as the option to run a randomized case, visualize Color Doppler varying per pathology, and perform a feeding test that allows examination of food passing through the pyloric channel.

Increasing diagnostic complexity is featured.

Learning Objectives:

  • To identify, understand and capture ultrasound images of organs in the abdominal cavity such as liver, kidneys, spleen, abdominal aorta, gallbladder, pancreas and appendix in a healthy patient
  • To demonstrate and evaluate diverse abdominal findings and pathologies
  • To practice the diagnostic workflow and reporting of the clinical findings for various virtual patient cases
