Surgical Procedures Train Anticipation

Understanding all elements of the OR is essential for a successful CST. This includes procedures and acquiring the skill to anticipate the surgeon’s next step. That only comes with exposure to the procedures in a safe environment. You can see videos of all additional LapSim ST software modules below: 

Colorectal Training Module

Colorectal resections are among the most frequently performed surgical procedures worldwide, and represent an important skill set for abdominal surgeons.

Key Training Simulations:

  • Understanding how a dissection and division of the Ileocolic Vein and Artery is performed in a laparoscopic environment performing a right-sided hemicolectomy, using a medial-to-lateral approach, and a selection of instruments.
  • Careful creation of window inferior to pedicle, using “Purple Down” technique, for safe exposure of the Ileocolic vessels.
  • Relating to the duodenum and Superior Mesenteric Artery and other critical tissues.

Cholecystectomy Training Module

From clipping the cystic duct to removing the gall bladder, this simulation module shows each critical step in this frequently performed laparoscopic procedure. With LapSim ST’s scenario and skills-based customization, instructors can introduce complications and target specific skill development.

Key Training Simulations:

  • Clipping the cystic duct
  • Dissection of the hepatocystic triangle
  • Dissection and freeing of gallbladder from the cystic plate
  • Removing the gallbladder

Video-assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) Lobectomy Training Module

This module offers training on key steps in the resection of each five lung lobes with peripherally located T1 or T2 tumors, utilizing the Copenhagen Standardized Anterior Approach.

With realistic anatomies and improved tissue handling, together with enhanced graphics, exercises give the trainee both procedural and technical understanding, before entering the OR.

Key Training Simulations:

  • Identification and dissection of hilum/vessels
  • Use of elastic vessel rubber loop
  • Sequential stapling of veins, arteries, bronchus and fissure
  • Bleeding control
  • Learn to avoid critical structures, such as the Phrenic nerve

Appendectomy Training Module

Designed to introduce residents to one of the most frequently performed laparoscopic surgeries in ORs. This scenario-based surgical simulation module will challenge trainees’ procedural knowledge and decision-making skills with extensive pathology variations and complications.

Key Training Simulations:

  • Dissect and free the base of the appendix
  • Divide the appendix transversally at the base
  • Removal of the appendix.

As of the LapSim ST 2017 software update the Retro-Caecal Anatomy Case is also included.

Gynecology Training Module

In study after study, training on LapSim’s Gynecology simulation module has been proven to provide significant improvement in trainees’ skills before they enter the operating room.

Updated tactile feedback and improved feeling of tissue handling for a more realistic experience. 4 cutting edge simulations: Tubal occlusion, Salpingectomy, Salpingostomy and Myoma suturing.

Key Training Simulations:

  • Performing tubal occlusion by cutting the fallopian tubes.
  • Extracting an ectopic pregnancy from a fallopian tube through salpingectomy or salpingostomy.
  • Myoma suturing in deformable tissue.

Hysterectomy Training Module

Simulating the critical steps of a laparoscopic hysterectomy procedure, this module offers a comprehensive and customizable VR training experience.

Key Training Simulations:

  • Uterine manipulation
  • Dissection and ligation of round ligament
  • Development of broad ligament and identification of ureter
  • Mobilization of the bladder (creation of vesico uterine reflection)
  • Identification, skeletonization, and safe ligation of uterine vessels
  • Closure of the vaginal cuff by suturing
  • Bleeding control and relating to critical structures: avoid damage to ureter, bladder and vasculature.

Inguinal Hernia Training Module

With this module you can train on the key steps of the procedure using the Totally Extraperitoneal (TEP) approach, where the hernia sac is returned into the abdominal cavity. The key steps are identification of different structures, dissection of adhesions, relating to the critical structures, as well as mobilization and reduction of the hernia sac and fixation of the mesh with a correct use of tacks or sealant.

The anatomical landmarks included in the Inguinal Hernia simulation procedure are epigastric vessels, triangle of doom, triangle of pain, vas deferens, gonadal vessels and Cooper’s ligament.

Bariatrics Training Module

This surgical procedure simulation module features procedural deconstruction capabilities simulating various bariatric VR training tasks. Includes simulations of four training tasks: lap-band suturing, jejunal suturing, inspect and measure the bowel.

Suturing & Anastomosis Module

Building on the foundational elements of LapSim Basic Skills, this training simulation module challenges learners with a progressively complex, stepwise approach to suturing and knot tying techniques. Fully customizable to meet individual trainee’s skills and needs, includes 10 successive exercises.

Our latest addition to our accessories range for LapSim are new suturing handles, modified from Pajunk® handles to suite VR simulation training. They fit the LapSim Haptic hardware, with screw coupling for fastening of the instruments and are compatible with LapSim 2016 software or later.

Nephrectomy Training Module

This surgical procedure simulation module features procedural deconstruction capabilities simulating the surgical removal of the kidney.
